Advocacy for disability rights is so important. It provides assistance to those in the disability community and offers support to ensure that all rights are upheld, their choice and control over care is maintained, and most importantly people with a disability have their voice heard.

Here are just some of the ways you can amplify your impact, get involved and take action in your community to advocate for justice.

Contact your Elected Officials – Reaching out to your elected officials is a great place to start advocating for justice. Not sure where to start? Check out Disability Rights NJ’s helpful Legislative Advocacy Resource Guide.

Donate to Disability Rights Groups & Organizations – Whether its a local group or a nationally known organziation, donating to the cause is a great way to help advocate for disability rights.

Attend a Disability Pride event and Educate – Take your support to the streets and attend a Disability Pride event! Googling local pride events is a great way to learn about what’s happening in your area. You can also check out Disability Pride PA and Disability Rights NJ for more events and workshops.

Speak UpWe’ve heard the saying “if you see something, say something,” and that saying holds true when it comes to advocacy. Speak up if you see unfairness or discrimination of any kind, thus ensuring inclusivity in the workplace, school or community.
